The Vanity of Work Depends...
22nd November 2010
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. Ecclesiastes 1:2 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. Ecclesiastes 2:11 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58
We can't take it with us when we go, as they say. Everything is meaningless, as Ecclesiastes says. The riches we store up during our long lives, through painful toil and sweat and tears, will all disappear and will profit us nothing in the long run.
But the Lord's work is not in vain, and we may participate in it. Therefore the Lord's work is profitable in the long run. We benefit, as well as others, and we glorify God through it.
